Details – True Costa Rica Home

Ojochal Rancho Villa

An elevated Costa Rican home with a rancho, a pool and old-growth hardwood

For sale

Three bedrooms, three baths, rancho, multiple living spaces and large pool

A rancho built for living outdoors

The large, open-air rancho with basic kitchen is the heart of the property: covered lounging and dining beside the pool, shaded by palms, made for the way people actually live in Ojochal.

Elevated and breezy

Many newer Ojochal homes sit down in low pockets. This one sits up in the air, catching morning and afternoon breezes, and the bedrooms get them too.

Built to last

Ceilings and trim of old-growth tropical hardwood, as dense as jatobá and no longer available today. The main building is concrete and steel.

Built by people who knew the tropics

Designed for real Costa Rican living: shade, airflow and outdoor space where you need them, rather than a transplanted suburban house.

Life on the property

Mornings start with a chorus of birds, each on its own schedule. We’ve recorded more than 30 different bird calls here. Evenings bring the klink and knock-knock frogs, and at night you can hear the distant surf.

The house was built with dense hardwood, concrete and steel by people who understood how to live in this climate, and it has real Costa Rican character. The flagstone around the pool stays cool underfoot even in the midday sun.

Fruit trees on the property include mango, pineapple, avocado, orange, apple, cashew (raw cashews have a very hot oil, so use gloves), lemon, coconut and star fruit.
